Spanish Community Center: In solidarity with Black Lives Matter
Dear Spanish Community Center Community,
Our team stands in solidarity with our Black colleagues, family, friends, and all those mourning the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many other members of the Black community. We understand that these senseless killings are even more painful with the reality that Black and Brown communities are also those most impacted by the current coronavirus pandemic medically, financially, and psychologically. Black lives matter. Black families matter. Black dreams matter. Black health matters. Black hopes matter.
Spanish Community Center’s values include a welcoming environment through empathy and respect for all, belief in the potential of each individual, advocacy for and with the community, and the power of a diverse local community. In line with these values, our team works passionately to support our Black brothers and sisters with services such as emergency food assistance, bilingual resource and referral, family advocacy services, childcare, immigration legal services, and leadership development. We understand that the race-based violence we see today belongs to a legacy of systemic and institutional racism that is deeply ingrained in this country, and we encourage SCC’s friends and family, especially those who are nonblack, to be educated on what antiblackness is and work towards eradicating it everywhere we can.
To the Black community: we are with you, and as the saying goes in Spanish: La gente unida jamas sera vencida. The people united will never be defeated
Centro Comunitario Español: en solidaridad con Black Lives Matter (Las Vidas Negras Importan)
A la comunidad negra: estamos con ustedes, y como dice el dicho en español: La gente unida jamas sera vencida.
